چکیده

Occasional mechanical failures is a concern for transfemoral amputees using osseointegrated fixation. Understanding the true load applied on osseointegrated fixation is one important step in solving this problem. Conventionally, the load magnitude can be calculated based on the motion of the prosthesis and the ground reaction forces measured by a force plate using inverse dynamics. However, this approach allowed only one or two walking steps to be measured and errors are compounded when involving more than one joint above the ankle. In this study, the load applied on the lower-limb osseointegrated fixation was directly measured with a load transducer. Twelve transfemoral amputees fitted with a fixation and their usual prosthesis (knee and foot) were assessed during approximately 51±12 normal walking steps in straight line. Three-dimensional force and moment local extremas and patterns at the fixation along a gait cycle were displayed. Step-to-step variability of each subject was low. This tends to validate gait laboratory-based studies focusing on one or two steps. High subject-to-subject variability was demonstrated. This could be due to the wide variety of components, alignments and anthropometric characteristics within the tested population.

The Effects of Negative Heel Rocker Shoes on the Moment and the Contact Forces Applied on Lower Limb Joints of Diabetic Patients During Walking

Purpose: The negative heel rocker shoes help reduce the plantar pressure in patients with diabetes, but their effects on the other lower limb joints are unknown. Accordingly, the current study aimed at evaluating the effect of negative heel rocker shoes on the moment and the contact forces applied on lower limb joints of diabetic patients while walking. Methods: A total of 10 patients with dia...

تاثیر سرعت استارت دویدن بر سفتی اندام تحتانی در دونده های سرعتی

Objective: Lower extremity stiffness is associated with variables such as the frequency and length of running steps, the amount of muscle force and power production. Previous studies showed contradictory findings regarding the relationship between lower extremities joints stiffness and start velocity. Sprint start can be highly affected by two key components of lower limb stiffness, namely, for...

Muscle activity during stance phase of walking: comparison of males with transfemoral amputation with osseointegrated fixations to nondisabled male volunteers.

A recent development in prosthetics is the osseointegrated fixation (OF), with improvements in comfort, fatigue, hip movement, and ease of prosthetic attachment reported. However, little information is available regarding muscle function. This study reports on selected gait parameters of the residual limb during the stance phase of level overground walking, focusing on muscle activity. Five mal...

PURPOSE The study was aimed at biomechanical evaluation of a novel Limb Prosthesis Osseointegrated Fixation System (LPOFS) designed to combine the advantages of interference-fit and threaded solutions. METHODS Three cases, the LPOFS (designed), the OPRA (threaded) and the ITAP (interference-fit) implants were studied. Von-Mises stresses in bone patterns and maximal values generated while axia...

Effect of segmental joint stiffness on tunnel lining internal forces under static conditions

According to the wide application of segmental lining in mechanized tunneling, recognizing the behavior of segmental lining joints is important in tunnels designing. In the structural analysis of the tunnel segmental lining, segmental joints can be considered as elastic joints, and their stiffness characteristics are affected by the rotational, shear, and axial stiffness. The purpose of this wo...
